St.Gabriel’s Hospital, Lilongwe-Malawi

  • TaskImplementation of 15kw system with Batteries

St. Gabriel’s is a mission hospital about an hour outside of Lilongwe, Malawi. It is a rural hospital that serves approximately 300 villages with natal care, surgery, and HIV programs. The former small missionary station has transformed into a well-established hospital that has now a capacity of 250 beds. Approximately 250 000 people are treated annually. Most of its patients are self-supporters living in rural areas outside of Namitete.

With such immense growth, the hospital’s power needs were becoming overwhelming and it had to come up with an innovative solution to keep sustainable without pouring down the rising costs of power to their patients who may end up not affording care at the hospital.

Hence they contracted us to implement a solar system that not only acts as a power cost reduction system but is there on standby in case the electricity goes offline, which is critical at a hospital of such mass. We implemented a 15KW system with batteries interconnected to the grid

The solar system implemented here for maximum impact included:

80 pieces of 250W Jinko solar panels
2 pieces sunny Island 5048
1 piece sunny Tripower 20000TL
16 Pieces Rolls Batteries
420Ah/6V
